MPEG-2

Pronounced "emm-peg two," MPEG-2 is a movie-quality video format.

MPEG-2 is oftentimes used interchangeably with "DVD", but this is a slight misnomer. DVD is a disc format and not a video format, and a DVD disc can contain any kind of video file, including MPEG-1, MPEG-4, or AVI files.

Movies that play on DVD players and a television are encoded in the MPEG-2 format. For that reason, AB Video Services likes to call MPEG-2 files "Movie DVDs."
